SCARCE WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 SMALL BORE LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 22 Short. SN 356229. Standard grade rifle with 24-1/4” oct bbl, full magazine, Sheard front sight and semi-buckhorn rear sight. The wood is uncheckered straight grain American walnut with straight stock and crescent buttplate. The dust cover screw is a replacement. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 88-90% original blue turning plum with scattered spots of light surface rust. Magazine tube is mostly a blue brown patina with bright blue in the sheltered areas. Receiver retains 93-95% bright original blue with light edge wear and some thinning over the top and bottom. It has light scratches and scattered pinpoints of light rust. Lever retains traces of original case colors and the hammer about 85% faded case colors. Wood is sound with oil stained wrist and normal handling and use nicks and scratches with a long scratch and a small gouge on the forearm. Forearm has a fine hand rubbed patina and the buttstock retains about 70% bright original varnish. Bore has a curious chamfer in the muzzle and the bore is somewhat worn with light pitting. 4-52868 JR370 (4,000-8,000)
