RARE SPECIAL ORDER DELUXE WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 157545. Beautiful deluxe rifle with 24-1/4” oct bbl, full magazine, gold washed Beach’s combination front sight, semi-buckhorn rear sight and a Winchester 62B tang sight with original pin in the upper tang. It is fitted with single set trigger and wonderfully figured, about 4X, checkered American walnut wood with “H” style checkered forearm and black fleur-de-lis insert pistol grip stock with crescent buttplate with trap. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this rifle as having been shipping April 14, 1885. It is originally listed with a 26” bbl and set trigger and was changed to 24” bbl April 4, 1885. No mention is made of the deluxe wood or special sights, however the set trigger is listed. This surely is an oversight in the records as there is little doubt that the way we find this rifle today must be how it left the factory. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Bbl retains about 95% strong bright original factory blue and the front sight about 90% of its gold wash. Magazine tube retains 93-95% original blue, turning plum with some light scratches and a spot or two of light rust. Receiver and sideplates retain most of their original factory case colors, faded on the left side, much brighter on the right side and brilliant in the sheltered areas. Lever retains most of its case colors, faded on the outer edges. Hammer about 90% bright case colors and the buttplate mottled dark case hardening. Wood is sound and retains about 95% strong bright original piano varnish finish with a few light nicks and scratches and a rub at the right heel. Crisp mechanics, bright shiny bore. 4-52552 JR298 (20,000-30,000)
