RARE SPECIAL ORDER BISLEY MODEL FLAT TOP TARGET SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 44 S&W (Russian). SN 169387. Rare flat top target with 7-1/2″ bbl, target front sight with homemade ivory blade & fixed rear sight on top flat which is matted or checkered. It has standard 1-line address with usual Bisley markings on the side, 2-line patent dates & rampant Colt in a circle on side of the frame. Trigger is checkered & it has walnut grips. Accompanied by a Colt Factory letter fully identifying this revolver with wood grips & “Checkered top of Frame” shipped Jan. 22, 1897 to Reginald H. Sayso address not listed. Under remarks records show that it was returned to Colt on Sept. 17, 1900, no further disposition listed. CONDITION: Good. Traces of orig finish remain at bbl root & in very sheltered areas around trigger guard & top of backstrap with balance of revolver a smooth light plum/brown patina with a few spots of scattered pitting. Grips have been filed or sanded almost completely smooth removing about all of the orig checkered & fleur-de-lis patterns. Will not hold on safety notch or half cock, otherwise mechanics are fine.
