BEAUTIFUL SPECIAL ORDER DELUXE 2ND MODEL WINCHESTER 1873 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 44243. Outstanding ’73 with 24-1/4” oct to rnd bbl, button magazine, ivory bead front sight and short, semi-buckhorn rear sight with checkered edges. It has very nicely figured 2X wood with early style forearm checkering toward the rear end and black fleur-de-lis insert pistol grip stock with smooth steel shotgun buttplate. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this rifle as is and indicating shipment on February 9, 1880 with four other arms to order #18922. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Bbl retains 96-98% strong bright original blue with only very minor muzzle and sharp edge wear. Receiver retains most of its original case colors, muted on the sideplates and forward flats, turning silver toward the back edges with some slight losses on the right side. Lever retains 60-70% bright case colors with the balance dark patina and light surface rust. Hammer retains most of its dark case colors and the buttplate about 70% thin bright blue. Wood is sound with a few scattered light nicks and scratches, a small gouge on the right side of the buttstock and a couple of small bruises, otherwise retains most of its bright original piano varnish finish with a touch of oil staining by the receiver. Dust cover retains 92-93% bright blue. Crisp mechanics and brilliant shiny bore. 4-52553 JR299 (20,000-35,000)
