RARE FIRST MODEL BROWN BESS MUSKET. NSN. Cal. 80. 45-1/2” rnd bbl. Marked “crown / GR” at the tail of the lock. Top of bbl is marked “POCOCK·C 3·No17” along with the proof marks. Front tang of buttplate is engraved “MajRS Compy”. The 13-1/4” triangular bayonet has a full ring around the rear, but no locking spring on the forearm. Socket is 3-7/8” long and extends from the muzzle to the forearm tip. CONDITION: Metal has been lightly cleaned with moderate pitting remaining on the bbl and buttplate, light pitting elsewhere. Markings are sharp, except on the buttplate. Stock has some repairs at the wrist and on the forearm and has been refinished. Bayonet has not been cleaned and has moderate rust coverage and pitting. Main spring is replaced and the lock appears to be an expert reconversion. 4-58217 FS6 (3,000-4,000)
