OUTSTANDING WOOD AND GILT METAL COD FISH WEATHERVANE FROM KENNEBUNKPORT, MAINE. The large wood body has six gilt metal fins and large gilt metal tail. Open mouth with large nail as barbel. The weathervane retains 50-75% of its gilding and has a great old finish and appearance. A letter from the consignor indicates that the weathervane adorned the cupola of either the Old Fort Inn or the Arlington, which were old hotels located in the bluffs above Walker Point, the summer home of the Bush family in Kennebunkport, Maine. It was acquired by her grandfather who worked in the area repairing roofs and opening and closing hotels. It was found in his barn after his death. SIZE: 49” l x 16” h. CONDITION: Very good with a small triangular piece missing from end of wood tail and upper slice off body. There are a number of bullet holes in fins and one in the tail with nicks where bullet hit wood. 9-99989 (5,000-10,000)
