OUTSTANDING RUSSIAN RELIEF DECORATED HANDLED MUG. Bottom having St. Petersburg Assayers mark “M.K 1827” (M. Karpinskiy, 1825-1838). Also marked “84” with a St. Petersburg hallmark of double anchor (1818-1864). Maker’s mark “P.M” (P. Madsen). The mug having a figural handle with bust of man with feathered helmet. The mugs body having a relief decoration to bottom section of the three dancing Graces interspersed with a cherub and lyre on plinth. The top section having three framed panels, one being a child pulling a wagon with Empress and peacock; another panel showing a cherub lighting a torch in front of a seated woman with urn; the third panel shows a figure of a woman filling a chalice from a pitcher seated in a chariot pulled by two dolphin fish. Each of the panels is hallmarked “84”. WEIGHT: SIZE: 5-1/2″ with handle x 3-1/2″ dia. (without handle). CONDITION: On the side there appears to be a very old professional repair which shows a small crease, otherwise very good. 9-22608 (3,500-4,500)
