IMPORTANT AESTHETIC MOVEMENT MARQUETRY BEMBE & KIMBEL SIDE CABINET. 3rd quarter 19th century, New York. Molded rectangular top with turret corners above the conforming rosewood case. The frieze decorated with a floral garland above a single cabinet door with oval convex plaque inlaid with a central floral shield within a floral scrolled marquetry cartouche. Cross banded and bordered by a cast bronze frame leaf tips within floral spandrels. Above a scalloped apron the whole with cast bronze mounts throughout, the plasters mounted with female figures on corbels. The apron centering a cast bronze female mask. The original door lock is inscribed with the maker’s name “A. Bembe & A. Kimbel”. SIZE: 42-1/2″ h x 33-1/2″ w x 16-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Very good overall with original surfaces and nice patina. The cast bronze trim, beneath the door is in need of minor professional restoration and remounting. 9-23430 (1,000-2,000)
