SCARCE MARLIN MODEL 1881 DELUXE LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 40-60. SN 28261. Scarce early Marlin with 28″ oct bbl, full magazine, German silver Rocky Mountain front sight & early style semi-buckhorn rear sight. It is mounted with very nicely figured American walnut with “A” style checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with smooth steel semi-crescent buttplate. Grip is somewhat exaggerated with relieved areas on both sides to accentuate the grip itself and it has a serpentine shaped cap. CONDITION: About fine. Overall the metal retains traces of orig finish in the very sheltered areas being mostly a silver/gray/brown patina with some scattered spots of pitting, heavier on the forward end of the magazine tube. Couple of the screws are slightly battered. Wood is sound with usual handling marks, nicks & scratches, with a couple of bruises on the forearm and retains 85-90% orig varnish showing moderate to heavy wear on the checkering. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore with a spot or two of light pitting. 4-56456 JR500 (3,250-4,250)
