SPECIAL ORDER DELUXE WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 30237. Early 2nd model rifle with 24-1/4″ oct to rnd bbl, button magazine, altered Rocky Mountain front sight & early, short, semi-buckhorn rear sight with checkered edges. Dust cover rail is screwed on & the dust cover has an impressed checkered thumbprint. Wood is very highly figured flame grain walnut with early style checkered forearm & straight grip stock with crescent buttplate & trap. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbl retains 93-95% blue under a heavy coating of old dried oil. Receiver & sideplates retain 60-70% thin orig case colors under a heavy coating of old dried oil. Lever retains about 50% case colors and the hammer about 90%-faded colors. Buttplate has turned silver. Forend cap retains about 95% bright case colors. Stock has a crack back of the top tang, otherwise the wood is sound and also has a heavy coating of old dried oil. This rifle should clean extremely well and should have a lovely finish on metal and wood once the dried oil is completely cleared away. Mechanics are crisp, strong bright bore with light pitting.
