RARE DELUXE WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 32 WCF (32-20). SN 121130. Rare early 32-20 with case colored receiver. It has 24-1/4″ oct bbl, full magazine, half nickel front sight & semi-buckhorn rear sight. This sight is the long wasp waist style instead of the earlier short style with checkered edges. It is mounted with extraordinary 3-4X American walnut wood with “H” style checkered forearm and black insert, serpentine grip stock with crescent buttplate without trap. It has sgl set trigger. Left side of the lower tang under the wood has the assembly number “4729”, three “X’s”, the number “32” and an “R”. Assembly number appears in the top tang channel of the stock and inside the toe of the buttplate. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter fully identifying this rifle as having been shipped April 5, 1883 with 19 other Model 1873’s to order 2885. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl & magazine tube retain 96-97% strong bright orig blue with only sharp edge wear and a ding in the tip of the magazine tube. Bbl has a few scattered spots of pinpoint surface rust. Receiver & sideplates retain virtually all of their orig strong case color, brilliant in the sheltered areas, fading a little elsewhere. Front edge of the receiver, just about all the way around, is nearly silver. Lever retains about 60-70% strong case colors & the hammer about 90%. Buttplate retains 60-70% faded case colors with some surface discoloration and fine pitting near the toe. Stock has a hairline on each side of the top tang, otherwise the wood is sound with minor nicks & scratches with slight dulling of the forearm and moderate wear on the forearm checkering, light wear on the grip & retains most of its orig piano varnish finish.
