IDENTIFIED COLT MODEL 1860 ARMY REVOLVER-AMOS BRADLEY, CO. A, 1st CONNECTICUT CAVALRY-CAPTURED IN ACTION. The identification for this Colt revolver comes from the Descriptive Roll book of Co. A, 1st Connecticut Cavalry. A photo static copy of this roll book accompanies the revolver which clearly list this revolver SN 64688 as assigned to Private Amos Bradley, Co. A. Furthermore, the listing for him in the published work “Record of Service of Connecticut Men in the Army and Navy of the United States During the War of the Rebellion” lists Bradley as mustered in as a private November 1, 1862 Captured July 14, ’63 Bolivar Heights, Va.-Died. Standard .44 cal Colt Model 1860 Army revolver-6-shot rebated cylinder, iron frame, brass trigger guard and walnut grip. All serial numbers appear to match on metal parts. One of the most active mounted units of the Civil War, the regiment moved to Baltimore, Md. to be reorganized and was serving there during the Gettysburg Campaign. It moved to Harper’s Ferry, W. Va., July 5, 1863, and did duty skirmishing with the southern cavalry in that vicinity until January, 1864. On July 14th 1863, private Bradley was captured here in action on Bolivar Heights. Col. Erastus Blakeslee became the regimental commander. The regiment served in Sheridan’s Shenandoah Valley Campaign from August to December. It fought at Cedar Creek, Reams’s Station, Five Forks, Yellow Tavern, and Sailor’s Creek. It was the 1st CT that escorted Gen. Grant to receive Lee’s surrender at Appomatox. The 1st suffered 772 casualties during the war. The regiment lost during active service 4 Officers and 36 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded, and 4 Officers and 149 Enlisted men by disease. A total of 193 lost their lives to all causes. CONDITION: Very good. A very nice tight Colt Army unfortunately polished up a bit but not severely cleaned. The metal parts exhibit a polished light grey appearance. Markings are all visible, grips are very nice and the cylinder retains about 30% of the scene. 4-49688 CW (1,800-2,400)
