RARE NAVY NAVY COLT MODEL 1851 NAVY CONVERSION REVOLVER WITH RARE HOLSTER. Cal. 38 CF. SN 61171. Blue & case colored with 7-1/2″ oct bbl, 1-line New York address with 1-pc walnut grip. It has iron back strap & large iron trigger guard. Butt strap is stamped “USN”. It is accompanied by a period short black leather holster, 5-1/2″ long, marked on the outside “U.S.N.Y. / BOSTON” (Boston Navy Yard). Holster has provisions for a thumb strap, which is missing and has a small cut out on the bottom inside edge. CONDITION: Fine plus. Bbl retains 20-25% orig blue in the sheltered areas with the balance a smooth light patina. There is some very fine pitting on the top three flats by the muzzle. Frame retains about 80% bright orig case colors on the sides with the recoil shields fading to silver. Grip frame retains traces of blue in the very sheltered areas being mostly a gray patina. Grips are very worn with numerous nicks, dings & scratches and retain a dark patina. Cylinder is a gray patina and retains 25-30% Ormsby naval battle scene. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore with a spot or two of light pitting. Holster is flexed and worn with some crackling on the outside with the aforementioned missing thumb strap and a partially opened rear seam.
