ALBERT ERNEST CARRIER-BELLEUSE (French 1824-1887) “LISEUSE” (THE READER). Circa 1880. Bronze and ivory figure depicting a lady reading a book, with ivory face and hands, signed on the base “A. CARRiER BELLEUSE”. On the stepped circular plinth is attached a plaque reading “LISEUSE / PAR CARRIER-BELLEUSE / GRAND PRIX DU SALON”, further joined to a white marble stepped plinth. SIZE: 16-3/4″ overall h. 15-3/4″ h. of bronze. CONDITION: Very good overall with dark brown patina, gilt-bronze highlights on details of dress and robe. Proper right hand has old seam crack in ivory running between the two middle fingers. Otherwise very good original condition. 9-95133 (9,000-12,000)
