SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1888 TRAPDOOR RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. SN 545578. Usual configuration with 32-1/2″ rnd bbl, square base front sight & Buffington rear sight. It is mounted in a 1-pc. walnut stock with two bands & rnd ramrod bayonet. It has an “1892” dated “SWP” cartouche on the left wrist. Right side of the buttstock is stamped with a large “25” and a small “93”. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Bbl retains about 90% strong orig finish, turning plum toward the muzzle with a fingernail sized cleaned spot. Breechblock retains most of its orig case colors, moderately faded. Stock is sound & retains most of its orig arsenal finish. Trigger guard has light surface rust. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. Pierre Renaud Collection 4-55713 JR272 (1,000-1,500)
