FINE CHINESE CARVED DRESSING SCREEN. Second half 19th century. Each panel with profusely carved ebonized frames depicting intertwined fanciful dragons amidst scrolling cloud bands, centering a hardwood panel inlaid with 3-dimensional carved ivory and bone leafy branches and flowering sprays, overlaid with 3-dimensional wooden tree branch on which is perched a fierce eagle, its body depicted in relief and overlaid with carved ivory feathers and with an abalone eye. The reverse of each panel inlaid with a random array of leaftips. SIZE: 81″ h. x 36″ panel w. x 3″ overall thickness. Total dimensions: 81″ x 72″. PROVENANCE: From a home in Belfast, Maine. CONDITION: The frames retaining original surface with minor small repairs. Each panel with old shrinkage cracks. The heavy central carved branches with some restoration and two twig losses. The inlaid leafy branches with no losses or damages. Each carved eagle with losses to overlaid plumage. This quality screen is in very good overall condition and worth complete restoration. 9-92976 (1,000-2,000)
