WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 RF Henry. SN 20685. Standard grade rifle with 24 1/4” oct bbl, full magazine, uncheckered wood with straight stock and crescent brass buttplate with trap. The buttstock and forend cap are fitted with sling swivels that started out as factory and have been modified. The front sight is a modified silver blade Rocky Mountain style and the rear sight is a tall buckhorn fixed sight. The bbl has Winchester and King’s improvement pattern markings. The receiver is nicely after-market engraved with vignettes of buck deer on each side surrounded by arabesque patterns and light borderlines. The buttplate tang is matching engraved. CONDITION: Good to very good. Iron retains an overall even smooth plum/brown patina. Receiver was polished a long time ago with slightly rounded edges and is now a nice mellow brass color. Stock has a crack by the top tang, otherwise the wood is sound and retains most of an old refinish. Good mechanics and strong dark bore. 4-56747 (5,000-6,000)
