SCARCE MARTIALLY MARKED COLT MASS MILITIA 2ND MODEL DRAGOON. Cal. 44 Perc. Usual configuration with 7-1/2” oct to round bbl, German silver front sight, brass trigger guard and backstrap with 1-pc walnut grips which have the outline of a cartouche on both sides. There is a large “MS” stamped just in front of the trigger guard. There is a tiny “U.S.” below the Colt’s Patent on the frame and the various parts have tiny inspectors’ initials. There is an “X” carved into the left grip through the cartouche and “BOXL” carved on the bottom of the left grip. SN 10459. CONDITION: Very good to fine, all matching including the wedge. Bbl retains traces of blue in the very sheltered areas, being mostly a smooth light silver-brown patina with some very fine scattered light pitting. The frame is mostly a cleaned smooth silvered patina. The cylinder retains about 30% thin original blue with the balance a silver-brown patina and a few spots of scattered very fine pitting. Retains about 80% of the original Indian fight scene and all 6 safety pins are present. The trigger guard and backstrap are a medium mustard patina. Grips show moderate wear with handling and use marks and the still-visible outlines of the cartouches. There is a hairline crack in the right grip near the frame. Strong bright bore with scattered fine pitting. 4-49487 (13,000-22,000)
