RARE SHENANDOAH VALLEY PAINT DECORATED AND CARVED WALL SHELF. Late 18th, early 19th century, Woodstock, VA. Fine example of regional folk art. The rectangular birch and pine shelf with scalloped cornice and apron mounted to shaped sides centering a pinwheel, star burst and star carved rondels, each mounted with a hand forged hook. Surfaces retain large trace areas of indigo and emerald green paint. The whole done in the Dutch taste. SIZE: 17-3/4″ h overall x 62″ l x 5-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Structurally intact. Carvings distinct.
