UNUSUAL CHINESE CARVED AND LACQUERED DRESSING STAND WITH MIRROR. Second half 19th century, China. The two sided red lacquered and gold gilt stand mounted with two circular beveled mirror plates within a molded slip framed by exotic birds, foo dogs, and foliage carved in deep relief. The molded cornice carved with central pomegranate flanked by confronting exotic birds. The lower mirror headed by a protruding three-dimensional dragon’s head. The frame, with dragon borders carved in deep relief. Joined to a trestle base, the supports of pierce carved foliate scrolling vinery continuing to molded shoe feet joined to a cracked ice shelf, applied with gilt flower heads. Centering a red lacquered panel carved with calligraphy. The reverse similarly carved and decorated, and mounted with circular non-beveled mirror plates. SIZE: 70″ h x 21-3/4″ w x 16″ d.
