UNSIGNED (European, Early 19th Century) “CLOSE QUARTERS-FRENCH NAVAL ENGAGEMENT”. Oil on canvas laid on masonite Naval battle scene shows several galleons in fierce firefight in close quarters to each other. There is fire amongst the ships and several others are in distant horizon. The scene is set under a colorful sky and green wavy water. Housed in an antique birdseye maple frame with gold liner. Quester Gallery label affixed to the reverse. SIZE: 17″ x 23-1/4″. CONDITION: Restored with inpainting, very good. 9-22761 (8,000-12,000)
