FINE CARVED NEPTUNE SHIP’S FIGUREHEAD. Mid 19th century. This heavily carved and polychrome painted oak bust depicting the fierce visage of Neptune, purportedly removed from a small privateer. SIZE: 15″ h x 24-1/2″ w x 13″ d. CONDITION: The carving retains original paint decoration. An old repair within the mustache running horizontally approximately 2″ from the bottom, repairing an old split in the carving. An excellent example, well preserved and in fine overall condition. 9-97546 (3,000-5,000)
