IMPORTANT LAMINATED HALF HULL SHIP’S MODEL “PASSAT”. First quarter 20th century. This large model of a four masted square rigged ship with 13 lifts in mahogany and maple depicting fore, aft, and center raised decks, each painted white with portholes in addition to rudder, keel, bowsprit and four masts. The oak mounting board with half round molded edge. Painted in cream across bottom: “Passat Lange 322′ Breite 47.2′ Tiefgang 22′ Tonnen 3,091 Gerbaut von Blohm & Voss fur Reederei F. Laeisz 1911″. The Passat was built in 1911 by Blohm & Voss, Hamburg for Ferdinand Laeisz. She was the sister ship of Peking of New York City. The Passat is now a museum ship in Travemunde, a borough of Lubeck, Germany. SIZE: 97″ l (backboard) x 16″ h x 7″ d. PROVENANCE: Deaccessioned from a New York maritime museum. CONDITION: With all original surfaces. Bowsprit missing, chips in upper right hand and lower left backboard molding, otherwise very good. 9-97029 (2,000-4,000)
