CLASSICAL CARVED MAHOGANY CARD TABLE. Circa 1840, probably New York. The figural D-form hinged top swiveling on the conforming frieze fitted with a demi-well, the bottom edge stencil decorated with Atheneum leaves, raised on acanthus carved turned and swelled standard on a circular figured plinth raised on four acanthus carved down swept legs terminating in boldly carved hairy paw feet raised on brass casters. SIZE: 29-1/2″ h x 36-1/4″ w x 18″ d. PROVENANCE: Connecticut family home which descended from Sarah Upson Goodrich (Mrs. Oliver R. Beckwith) who descended from the Rev. Charles Chauncey, President of Harvard College and Elder William Brewster. Sarah was a member of the Connecticut chapter of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. CONDITION: Structurally very good and retaining original finish. The top with minor shrinkage cracks. Hinges and casters original. 9-21868 (1,000-1,500)
