ALEKSANDR KARLOVICH BEGGROV (BEGGROW)(Russian, 1841-1914) TRANQUIL HARBOR. Oil on canvas coastal scene shows a two-mast schooner flying white flag with blue “X” which is believed to be an Admiral’s flag or a ceremonial naval flag. Three other smaller boats with sails up are in the quiet harbor. A town/city is seen on the far shore and in the foreground are three women walking away from two boats that have pulled up on shore. Signed lower right in Cyrillic and dated “1910”. Housed in a gesso decorated gilt frame. There is some illegible writing on the stretcher. SIZE: 15-1/4″ x 23″. CONDITION: Very good. Professionally conserved recently by Susanne E. Friend of the CoservArt Associates, Inc of Culver City, CA (conservation report available upon request), minor inpainting. 9-93845 (40,000-60,000)
