DOUBLE PAPER-CUT SILHOUETTE OF MR & MRS. DAVID ROOD OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT. Last quarter 18th century. Framed behind a eglomise panel, the two paper-cut silhouettes presented “en face” and rendered with watercolor heightened details. Affixed to the back of the frame is a hand-written description of provenance by a family member. These silhouettes are also accompanied by period photographs of and related to the sitters. SIZE: Silhouettes: 2-1/2″ h.; Eglomise panel: 5-3/4″ x 7-3/4″ sight; Frame: 6-3/4″ x 8-3/4″. PROVENANCE: Connecticut family home which descended from Sarah Upson Goodrich (Mrs. Oliver R. Beckwith) who descended from the Rev. Charles Chauncey, President of Harvard College and Elder William Brewster. Sarah was a member of the Connecticut chapter of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. CONDITION: Silhouettes in good condition with minor discoloration and foxing to background paper. The eglomise panel with some losses to black painted areas in addition to bubbling, otherwise good.
