NORTH CAROLINA FEDERAL INLAID WALNUT CHEST OF DRAWERS. 1st quarter, 19th century. The rectangular case with contrasting banded edges above the conforming case fitted with a pair of aligned short drawers above three graduated long drawers, all with thumb molding edges. Each drawer with contrasting string inlays simulating panels. The whole raised on straight feet with scalloped returns. The provincial chest with all yellow pine secondary wood and with original brass handles and oval escutcheons. SIZE: 38″h x 36″ (case width), 38″ (overall), x 18″d. PROVENANCE: By descent through the family to the current owner. From a private Maine home. CONDITION: With original feet and backboards. One drawer bottom, a later replacement. Assembled with square-cut nails. Later reinforcements done with round nails. Some losses to stringing. Overall very good. 9-23174 (2,000-3,000)
