BRONZE FIGURAL CENSER. Ming Period, China. With 6-character Hsuan Te mark on side. Jui-i bordered spherical censer held by two bearded figures. The reticulated lid with foo dog finial. Accompanied by paper and hardwood platform. SIZE: Censer: 6-3/4″ h x 8-1/4″ l. PROVENANCE: By direct descent from the family of Commodore John Pope, acquired while on expedition to Japan and China with Commodore Perry, 1853-1854 to the current owner. Hand written & typed provenance & family record accompanies lot. CONDITION: With undisturbed surfaces. Rim of censer with 1-1/2″ loss. Opposing side with two small holes.
