CARVED AND GILT DECORATED BUDDHA ON THRONE. Chinese, 19th century. The seated figure, gilt decorated overall, with painted facial features including mustache and goatee with remnants of original human hair. Head with long, straight painted hair. Earlobes elongated in typical fashion. Carved from the solid. Rear of figure with rectangular cover opening to a hollow compartment. Stepped throne surmounted by a flame, the scrolled sides carved with leaf tips and raised on ogee feet centering scrolling vinery on the frieze. In red paint with gilt highlights. SIZE: Statue: 13″ h. Throne, overall: 24-1/2″ h x 13″ w x 7-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Statue with losses to digits, eyelids and elements of facial hair. Gilded surfaces showing appropriate wear commensurate with age. Throne retains original painted and gilded surfaces, now worn. Image within center of flame crest now absent.
