EDOUARD PAIL (French, 1851-1916) SPARKLING DEW ON ROSE COLORED FIELDS. Colorful oil on canvas landscape shows a field with light red flowers having draping strings of dew. A shepherd tends to a large flock of sheep and the morning mist is lifting from the valley floor under light skies. Signed lower left “E. Pail”. Housed in a fine gesso decorated gilt replacement frame. SIZE: 21-1/2″ X 25-3/4″. PROVENANCE: From an East Sangerville, Maine private collection, by descent from Dr. Samuel Cox Hooker (1864, Brenchley England -1935, Brooklyn Heights, New York), a sugar chemist, magician, and art collector, to the present owner, a great-grand-daughter. Acquired by Dr. Hooker in Paris. CONDITION: Very good with 1″ scrape line at left edge of frame. 9-94927 (2,000-4,000)
