OUTSTANDING CARVED CRAB TRADE SIGN. Late 19th early 20th century. This fine life-like example carved in pine and with traces of original blue, red and white paint designed as an exterior trade sign. Mounted on cast-iron hanging brackets. SIZE: 43″ h x 59″ w x 5″ d. PROVENANCE: Sign originally mounted on Chesapeake Bay crab house, Maryland eastern shore, subsequently acquired by Flutie’s Pier 17 restaurant, New York City and purchased by the current owner from that location upon closing of the restaurant. CONDITION: Structurally very good. Original painted surfaces mostly absent, now with a waxed polished surface. An old repair with copper sheath on proper left rear swimming leg and an iron support attached to proper right rear swimming leg. Otherwise very good. 9-22068 (3,200-3,800)
