STEIFF STUDIO SIZE PUSHMI-PULLYU LLAMA FILM PROMOTION PIECE. They say two heads are better than one. And that seems to be the case with this outstanding promotional piece for the 1967 20th Century Fox film production of “Dr. Doolittle”. This special order from Steiff was created for red carpet appearances, openings, and other promotions for the film. This lifelike representation, if there ever was one, features long shaggy and shorter synthetic fur with soft plush facial features, large glass eyes, and stitched and airbrushed facial features on its dual jointed heads. This lot is accompanied by a letter of provenance suggesting the llama was given to the Children’s Hospital of Washington, DC (now the Children’s National Medical Center) in the late 60s and was told the animal had been previously given to the White House during Lyndon Johnson’s presidency for his daughters who then donated it to the hospital. During construction of the new children’s hospital, it was then cared for by Dr. Mary Daugela, a pediatrician at the Children’s hospital and then given to the Briar Bush Nature Center in 2011. This would be a most unique addition to any Steiff collection and a rare opportunity to own a piece of cinematic history. SIZE: 75″ l x 67″ h to top of head and 41″ h to top of back CONDITION: Near excellent with no apologies. Retains original Steiff button in ear. 7-70131 (3,000-6,000)
