RUSSIAN SILVER AND ENAMEL CROSS AND BROCADE COIN PURSE FROM THE SCHAFFER COLLECTION. 1) A 2-1/2″ x 2″ cross with open work stylized hearts and tips of cross having enameled blue flowers on one side and Russian writing inside a starred circle. Unmarked. A copy of the Schaffer collection certificate is included dated August 3, 1937 inventory #2049. The inscriptions are as follows: “King”, “Jesus Christ”, and “Glory.” The reverse “May God Resurrect and His Enemies be Scattered.” The certificate indicates that it was purchased from the Hermitage Museum, originally from the personal belongings of Czarina Alexandra Feodorovna, wife of Nicholas II, the late Czar of Russia. 2) A 3-1/4″ x 4″ coin purse with gold embossed inscription on inside of flap “MADE OF RUSSIAN IMPERIAL BROCADE FROM THE SCHAFFER COLLECTION”. The purse comes with a typed 1936 Schaffer Collection certificate #576 as follows: “VERY FINE COIN PURSE OF BLUE AND GOLD BROCATELLE, PATTERNED WITH FORMALIZED FLORAL MOTIF AND VINES IN ROSE, GREEN AND GOLD IN A LAPIS BLUE GROUND. MADE OF IMPERIAL RUSSIAN BROCADE OF THE 18TH CENTURY, WHICH WAS ORIGINALLY IN THE WINTER PALACE”. Both pieces housed in a custom Schaffer box. SIZE: 1) 2-1/2″ x 2. 2) 3-1/4″ x 4″.
