ORIGINAL ENGRAVING OF THE AMENDMENT ABOLISHING SLAVERY. Circa 1868. This engraving executed by the “WESTERN BANKNOTE & ENG. CO. CHICAGO”, is a copy of the original document signed by Abraham Lincoln, Hannibal Hamlin and the Senators and Representatives of the 38th Congress who voted in favor of the passage of the joint resolution to abolish slavery, approved February 1, 1865. This rare Reconstruction-era engraving of 1868 is identical to ones owned by the Smithsonian and the Chicago Historical Society. Another example sold at Christie’s New York Gallery, December 3, 2007, Lot 157. SIZE: 22″ x 16″ Sight size CONDITION: Not examined out of frame, the document with some creases and deterioration along lower borders, otherwise good with clearly visible text and signatures.
