MOLDED ZINC HORSE HEAD BUST FROM MARISE FARM. Second quarter 20th century. Bust of a race horse within an oval frame on a wood mount depicted with open mouth and upright ears. This unusual example of a trade sign originated at Marise Farm in New Jersey where the thoroughbred horse Market Wise stood at stud. Market Wise was the 3rd place finisher in 1941 Kentucky Derby and Champion Handicap Horse of 1943. Market Wise, the only horse to defeat the great Whirlaway twice, sired stakes winner Wise Margin, winner of 11 stakes, his bloodline can be found in many great stakes horses of the modern era. SIZE: 36″ h x 22-1/2″ w x 22-1/2″ d overall. PROVENANCE: Consigned from the descendent of the past owner of Market Wise. CONDITION: Structurally very good. Painted surfaces old but not original.
