ROY CROSS (American, 1924-2008) U.S.S. CONSTITUTION. Outstanding gouache nautical scene shows the majestic Constitution sailing under full sail in white capped blue sea. The ship leads four other tall ships coming toward viewer. Great detail is shown in the ships rendering including rigging, deck and deck hands. The scene is shown under a light blue and white cloud sky. Signed lower left “Roy Cross” and Copyright “1976”. Superbly housed in a fine gesso decorated gilt frame with linen and gilt liner. Also having a decorative title and artist plaque. The Constitution is shown circa 1804 and depicts it as the flagship of the US Mediterranean Squadron under Captain Edward Preble. SIZE: 22″ x 30″.
