IMPORTANT AMERICAN SILVER PLATED MODEL OF COASTAL SLOOP. Second half 19th century. Fine realistic and detailed model of a fully rigged coastal sloop under sail cast by the “Meriden Brittania Co. Meriden CT” and so marked on interior of the plinth. The boat mounted on rectangular mirrored silver plateau, the gilt rims applied with shells continuing to sloping sides cast with floral sprays, the corners with dolphin mounts, raised on 6 supports in the shape of fanciful conch shells on rectangular plinths. The boat manned by a youth with cap, vest and breeches. The model accompanied by the original table form case carved of walnut, applied with shells and dolphins. SIZE: Case: 51″ h x 37″ l x 23-1/2″ w. Model: 24-3/4″ h x 27-1/2″ l x 16-1/4″ w. PROVENANCE: Owned by Walter Ketter, Proprietor of the Red Circle Inn, Nashotah, WI, Sotheby’s New York to the current owner. CONDITION: Silver casting and cabinet all with original surfaces.
