IMPORTANT AMERICAN FOLK ART PORTRAIT OF JAMES PEARTHREE, ESQ. 1833. The portrait, mounted in a later Victorian frame, depicting a gentleman with black coat and white shirt with high collar, sporting a goatee, posed in a chair, red book in right hand, dominoes in the foreground, framed by tasseled drape and titled in the drapery, “Jms. Pearthree Esqr. 1833” For two similar examples relating to the positioning of a book in the sitter’s right hand, refer to “American Folk Painters” by John & Katherine Ebert, Page 93, both examples. The book is included with the sale of this painting. SIZE: 20″ x 16″ CONDITION: Upper border with paint loss, the paint with craquelure.
