AMERICAN FOLK ART PAINTED BARBER’S POLE. Last quarter 19th century. This carved and painted example of baluster form with heavy ball finial painted in swirling red, white and blue. The central turned section painted with diamond forms, the turnings in gold and black. Now mounted on a later steel base. SIZE: 75-1/2″ h x 16-1/2″ circumference (approx). CONDITION: Barber pole retains original painted surfaces, now dried and flaking from weathering. Old screw holes evident from previous mounting. Otherwise very good structural condition. 9-97171 (3,000-5,000)
