GEORGE HENRY SMILLIE (American, 1840-1921) “AMONG THE CONNECTICUT HILLS”. Large oil on canvas panoramic view of a Connecticut landscape having a dirt road lined with rock walls. The scene is in springtime and a river is lined with apple trees and a small mill. A cluster of blossoming trees is in foreground and several houses are nestled amongst the wooded riverbank. In the distance can be seen a sliver of water, all under pink and white cloud blue sky. Signed lower right “Geo H. Smillie N.A.”. Housed in a period carved and gilt wood frame. Attached to reverse is an original penned label. SIZE: 30″ x 45″. PROVENANCE: From an old Southern Maine collection. CONDITION: Surface dirt, frame edge abrasion, several small holes and left corner has scrape. Unrestored. Otherwise good. 9-94107 (8,000-12,000)
