PENNSYLVANIA FEDERAL BIRD’S-EYE MAPLE TALL CASE CLOCK. First quarter 19th century. Bonnet with concave molded swan’s neck cornice terminating in concave rosettes, centered by three spool turned finials above the astragal arched door, flanked by 4 swelled colonnettes opening to an enameled painted moon phase dial, an Arabic and Roman numeral chapter ring and calendar aperture, all within scrolling spandrels. The brass 8-day movement with time and strike operation, the iron faceplate engraved “Osborne” (probably Thomas Osborne, working in Birmingham England 1800-1825). The narrow throat with canted corners fitted with a double arched tombstone door, joined to the concave molded box base, raised on bracket feet with shaped returns. Accompanying the lot is a newspaper article regarding the sale of the Yates Estate at 713 Greenwood Ave., Trenton, NJ which is the auction in which it came from. SIZE: 88-1/2″ h x 12-3/4″ w throat x 10-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: Collection of Elwyn Dearborn, Medford, NJ & Portland, ME. CONDITION: This nice example with strong graining is refinished with bright color and good patina. The works with old restorations, the dial with small repainted areas.
