MARGARET BOURKE-WHITE (American, 1904-1971) PLOWING THE FIELDS. Vintage unmounted, black border photograph, circa 1936, shows two teams of mules pulling hand held plows in a large field. Unmarked back having pencil inscription “R7 vertical”. At this time Margaret was in Georgia with Erskine Caldwell gathering photographs for their book “You Have Seen Their Faces”. This family grouping in a slightly different pose was used as the front cover of this book. We have been unable to find another image of this photograph published. SIZE: Photograph: 13″ x 9-3/4″. PROVENANCE: Erskine Caldwell’s wife (Mt. Vernon, Maine); to our consignor’s father through descent. CONDITION: Horizontal crease marks, more noticeable on the back than the front. Some wear to the black border. Image is crisp and clear. 9-99881 (3,000-5,000)
