MARGARET BOURKE-WHITE (American, 1904-1971) DAHLONEGA, GEORGIA-FAMILY PORTRAIT. Important and rare vintage photograph depicting a mother and her four children. She sits in the center surrounded by her four children. A poignant snapshot of southern poverty. The actual photograph is unmounted and has a thin black border. On reverse is a purple stamp “A Margaret Bourke-White photograph”. Also inscribed in pencil “605”. At this time Margaret was in Georgia with Erskine Caldwell gathering photographs for their book “You Have Seen Their Faces”. This family grouping is the front cover photograph of this book. SIZE: 9″ x 13-1/4″. PROVENANCE: Erskine Caldwell’s wife (Mt. Vernon, Maine); to our consignor’s father through descent. CONDITION: Upper left border with a 1/2″ tear, right top corner with bend creases, bottom left corner with bend crease. Image is clear with wonderful warm toning. 9-99874 (10,000-15,000)
