SCRIMSHAW TOOTH OF WHALING SHIP “FORTUNE”. Late 19th century. Nice two sided example depicting a whaler with American flag standing atop surfaced whale. Mariner’s compass and whaling ship. Reverse scrimmed with banner within which is “SHIP FORTUNE 1846” above scroll within which is “MASTER/THOMAS. S. BAILEY”. SIZE: 6-3/4″ l. CONDITION: Structurally very good with an old shallow small chip at point of tooth. Nice patina. 9-22426 (800-1,200)
