HENDRICK VERSCHUURING (Dutch, 1627-1690) TRAVELERS RESTING BY A TEMPLE. Fine oil on wood panel outdoor scene shows four men on horseback stopping near water and large temple with two Monks on the stairway, a woman with basket of clothes, a dog and several bathers in and around the water. A landscape is seen with classical ruins and mountain in background. Signed lower “H Verschuuring” and “T. A. 1677”. Back of the raised panel has a painted “G.V.K.”, part of a red wax seal and an old numbered label. Housed in an old ebonized frame with gilt liner having name plaque. SIZE: 13-3/4” x 16-1/2”. CONDITION: Very good, masking varnish. 9-29952 (6,500-8,500)
