RARE BERDAN SHARPS CIVIL WAR RIFLE. Cal .52. 30” round bbl. Double set triggers. The cartouche in the wrist is visible but illegible. Bbl marked on left flat with tiny “O.W.A.” Remnants of a lightly carved phrase “I killed Cock Robin” are legible on the left side of the stock. On the right side of the stock are carved seven notches. Apparently the sharpshooter was keeping score. SN 54428. CONDITION: Gray and brown patina overall to metal. Forestock is missing a 6” chunk of wood on the left top edge between the middle barrel bands, with evidence of old field repair (smoothing with knife). Bore is strong with some heavy pitting in rear half of bbl. Primer feeder appears to operate properly. Mechanically fine. A very interesting Berdan Sharps. 4-49580 (6,000-9,000)
