PROVIDENCE TOOL CO. MODEL 1861 MUSKET. Cal. .58. 40” round bbl. Marked with a large spread wing eagle with “U” on one side and “S” on the other side above “Providence Tool Co / PROVIDENCE R.I.” in front of the hammer and “1864” behind the hammer. “OWA” cartouche in a long rectangle on the left side of the stock. There are two unreadable marks at the rear of bbl in front of the U.S. acceptance marks. The ramrod and hammer screws are replaced. NSN. CONDITION: Smooth brown patina except at breech, which is heavily pitted with vise marks on the tang. Moderate pitting on the lockplate and hammer but the markings are sharp. Wood has normal dents and scratches but is still solid. 4-49232 FS1 (1,000-2,000)
