PEABODY MILITARY MUSKET. Cal. Undetermined center fire. NSN. Standard musket with 33” rnd bbl, barleycorn type front sight with musket rear sight. It has straight grain American walnut wood with full-length forearm and straight stock with musket buttplate. There is a rectangular cartouche on the left wrist and small inspector initial “S” on the buttplate tang and adjacent on the wood. It has a ramrod in the forearm and a commercial military style sling. Accompanied by an original unmarked socket bayonet with metal scabbard missing the locking ring and frog. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl retains 85-90% strong original blue with scattered spots of rust pitting. Receiver, lockplate, hammer and lever retain most of their original dark case colors with scattered spots of rust. Wood is sound with usual handling and use marks and a couple of dings on the stock and retains most of its original military finish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore that is dirty. Bayonet retains about 80% of its original bright finish with scattered spots of rust. Socket and shank are dark patina as is the scabbard. 4-52832 JR482 (1,000-1,500)
