CHRISTIAN WILHELM ERNST DIETRICH (German, 1712-1774) THE VISITOR. Oil on wood panel interior scene shows a family seated around a fire, an open window reveals a visiting traveler holding a walking stick. The man of the house lights his pipe with ember tongs while the mother sits next to a child and another woman looks out at stranger. Unsigned. Panel has an old wood cross-hatched cradle where it holds two old cracks together. Housed in a 19th Century gesso decorated frame with old name tag of artist. SIZE: 17” x 13-1/4”. CONDITION: Alligatored varnish layer, some inpainting with masking varnish. Good. 9-72900 (5,000-8,000)
