VERY EARLY KETLAND DOUBLE BARREL FLINTLOCK FOWLER. Cal. About 20 bore. NSN. Fine early fowler with 37” oct to rnd bbls with smooth, concave, tapered rib marked “LONDON” on top. It has 4-1/2” long, slightly curved lockplates with beveled edge, gooseneck hammers & bridled frizzens. Mounted in a very early, English style, 1-pc half stock with iron nose pipe, that may be a replacement, secured by two wedges without escutcheons. It has brass trigger guard & buttplate. Trigger guard is very early style with wide, engraved bow and a long pineapple finial. Buttplate has a 3-stepped tang with light engraving. CONDITION: Good. No orig finish remains with bbls being a dark attic patina with moderate rust over most of surfaces & a few spots of heavy pitting. Left bbl, about 6” from breech end, has a brazed 2-3/4” section replaced. Lockplates & hammers are also a dark patina showing heavy wear. Appears to have most of forestock replaced with a repaired crack through wrist, otherwise wood is sound with a very old patina on orig part with artificially aged finish on forestock. Trigger guard & buttplate retain a dark brown patina. Mechanics are fine. 4-59135 JR584 (4,000-6,000)
